In "Jaque mate al rey de Navarra " (Checkmate to the King of Navarre), Pello Guerra picks up the thread wove in his first novel, "Requiem por Navarra", combining fiction and historical fact to narrate the events that took place in Navarre, a nation that remained independent after the Castilian conquest of 1512.

14 May 1610. Henry the III of Navarre and IV of France dies in the streets of Paris, stabbed to death by a fanatical Catholic named Ravaillac. Everything points to King's assassination as the work of an illuminated visionary who hears the voice of God in his head. However, several details suggest that the Pyreneen king may have fallen victim to a widescale plot. In light of the many questions surrounding the event, the Duke of Sully, right-hand man of the assassinated monarch, decides to investigate and uncover the truth.
